Iterative Design Practices

Participants learn the essentials of iterative design practices (IDP) – including tools and methods for prototyping, testing, evaluating, and creating communication products that meet the needs of specific audiences. Also includes basic project management skills used in document management projects. Completion prepares you for further study in information architecture, user experience research and design, or to transition into a career in technical communication and information design.

Earning Criteria

Successful completion of TCID 3140: ITERATIVE DESIGN PROJECTS - Familiarizes students with the foundational usability principles of creating, testing, revising and recreating products for maximum communication effectiveness. Students practice the process with multiple deliverables, paying careful attention to project management techniques for print, visual, and digital communication contexts
Successful completion of TCID 3160: TECHNOLOGICAL ADAPATABILITY - Prepares students to work with a variety of software tools to aid with collaboration, writing, and preparing professional products. Students learn to approach technology flexibly, assessing which tools are best for projects and how they aid with creating effective communication.
Successful completion of TCID 3865: USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN PRINCIPLES - Explores the role that design plays in users’ experiences of communication products and in human-computer interaction. Students use contemporary UX design tools to translate these principles into usable and understandable prototypes that include images, copy, and basic interactivity.
