Our Employer Projects scheme offers students the opportunity to work on a real project brief set by a client- this may be an employer, organisation, or academic. Working in multi-disciplinary groups, students gain great work experience and are supported with their development throughout, ensuring when they complete they are confident communicating their skills and experience in any setting.

Students take part in a skills assessment where they will rate their skills against 30 definitions. The skills that are listed are those employers look for including team work, problem solving and leadership skills. Student also take a second assessment at the end of the project to monitor their progress.

Student participate in a one off project training session whereby they learn about planning, budgeting and health & safety. This helps to develop students knowledge about project management and the things they need to consider.

Students participate in two life skills workshops. One on the topic of communicating and presenting with impact. During this workshop students learn about the four dimensions of giving a great presentation and how to engage with an audience effectively and confidently. The second workshop is understanding behaviours and providing feedback. This supports students to understand what influences behaviour and how to effectively provide feedback in the workplace.

The project takes place over an 8 week period and individually students contribute 4 hours weekly on average. Students keep a log of hour to monitor their contributions.

Students attend weekly check-ins with their groups in order to see if they are working towards the deadline and if any additional tasks need completing.

Students upload their CV on the CV Review Tool which uses Applicant Tracking Technology to read their CV and provide feedback.

Students watch an online webinar 'How to Communicate Your Skills to Employers'. Students are prompted to reflect on the skills they have developed so far from the project and how to include them in interview questions in the future.

Each group present their findings to the client and assessor, followed by a Q&A session. Students also submit a written report 1 week before the presentation.
