Earners develop advanced skills for the differential diagnosis of mental disorders by expanding observational and interviewing skills, and the use and interpretation of screening tools, laboratory tests, and behavioral assessments. Clinical seminars and didactic sessions are based on the most current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders V (DSM 5) and other appropriate methodologies for diagnosis.

This 8-week, asynchronous didactic course provides students with a foundation in determining psychiatric diagnoses and utilizing evidence-based started to provide safe patient care. Students gain familiarity with screening tools, specific symptoms, specifiers, and the differential diagnosis process. The coursework involves student preparation and review of materials, along with Engagement in weekly case study discussions for students to contribute individual posts along with peer replies.

A grade of B- or higher is required in order to pass the course. This grade is determined by submitted discussion and writing assignments for each module in each course.
