On the Job Training to Support Children & Youth Impacted by Substance Use Disorders

Mentors and supervisors focused on and assessed trainee competencies approved by the US Department of Labor for this occupation. Earning Criteria

Earning this badge requires each trainee to achieve proficiency (a score of 3 or higher on the 5 point DOL scale) on 60% or more of the competencies in the US Department of Labor Competency portfolio for this occupation, as well as 2,000 hours of paid employment as a paraprofessional supporting children, youth and family members impacted by substance misuse. Proficiency is assessed by each trainee's mentor four times during the Level II on-the-job instructional period.

Participants have successfully completed the following didactic trainings: Child & Family Systems: The Impact of Trauma & Substance Misuse, Certified Recovery Support Worker Training and Fundamentals of Enhanced Care Coordination as prerequisites to entering Level II of the program.

Students met and engaged with their mentor at least 1 time per month to discuss specific skills to acquire, strategies for gaining proficiency, and ways to apply what they learned in the didactic trainings to real world experiences at their job. Earners completed the competencies 4 times over the course of their On-the-Job training period and attained competency with a score of 3 or more on 60% or more of the competencies.
