Earners of this badge will demonstrate the ability to identify and participate in personally meaningful community-based activities. Badge earners will have identified and consistently participated in campus- and off campus-based activities that are aligned with their values, interests, and person-centered plans. Through their consistent participation, they will have demonstrated the self-direction and social skills needed to be an active participant in their communities.

Earning Criteria

Earners must demonstrate participation in community-based activities that are aligned with their values, interests, and person-centered plans for at least 2 semesters. Participation is defined as “active engagement,” and can be demonstrated through engagement in activities (e.g., completing tasks at events such as cooking or playing a sport) and/or verbal or written communication with others present. These events can be at UNH or off campus, as indicated in person-centered plans.

Participants must demonstrate regular participation in community-based activities aligned with their values, interests, and person-centered plans for at least 2 semesters. “Regular” participation is defined per the event schedule, but at a minimum, earners will have participated in a regularly-occurring campus event that have a community-building and/or social component (e.g., campus organization, student group, and/or residential life events) monthly. Earners must demonstrate progress towards at least 2/3 community engagement goals, as measured by standards/benchmarks set in their Person-Centered Plan. Earners will demonstrate self-direction needed for community-engagement as demonstrated by inclusion of community-based events in their calendar and at least 75% attendance.
