Earners are able to apply theories of second language acquisition to teaching English in public and private settings. They have demonstrated teaching abilities through a 40 hour practicum (or equivalent) and have demonstrated knowledge in cross cultural communication, world Englishes, human language patterns, and second language teaching methodologies. Participants understand multilingualism, multiculturalism and individuals’ language rights.

Earning Criteria

Complete six required courses, each taking 15 weeks to complete. Courses are combined with for-credit sections of the same class. Students complete all projects and exams that are required of for-credit students. Classes include: Introduction to the Study of Languages, World Englishes, Introduction to English Grammar and Cross Cultural Communication. A practicum and methodology experience is also required.
