OIC – Online Instructor Certification Badge

The Online Instructor Certification (OIC) is required for all online instructors at the University of South Florida. Earners of the OIC Badge, offered by USF Innovative Education Digital Learning, have demonstrated mastery of online pedagogy, student engagement, and principles of effective online teaching. The OIC course is delivered over a four-week period and participants typically spend one to three hours per week reviewing presentations, engaging with peers, and completing assignments.

- (All) Interact with peers through group-based discussion activities where participants share plans, discuss, and acquire feedback
- (Module 1) Develop their own instructor presence plan
- (Module 2) Develop an assessment and feedback plan based on the needs and objectives of their online course(s)
- (Module 3) Develop a content and presentation plan demonstrating appropriate use of asynchronous content and active learning strategies within synchronous (live) sessions
- (Module 4) Develop their own training plan outlining how they will continue to cultivate their skills as an online teacher upon completion of the OIC
Earning Criteria

In order to acquire an OIC Badge, participants must meet the following criteria: a. Satisfactory completion of all required activities within the OIC including the creation of each plan and participation in the peer-review discussions as required by the OIC participation rubric. b. Certify in January 2022 or later.
