The earner of this badge has completed the year-long Yale Program to Advance Training in Health and Sciences (PATHS). PATHS is a competitive program that exposes students from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds from across the US to expert-led workshops, panels, group conversations, and mentoring to help prepare them for advanced degrees and careers in health or science. Earners of this badge have completed a minimum of 13.5 hrs of online or in-person training from 08/21 to 06/22.

Earning Criteria

Attended and participated in the majority of the sessions and trainings with peers and instructors. This certifies that the PATH Scholar fulfilled the attendance requirements.

Participated in several workshops to learn how to assemble a competitive application package for their future advanced degree program. Scholars received expert feedback from: current advanced degree (AD) candidates, faculty and physicians, and members of AD admission committees.

Learned about the practice of “mentoring up” and how to effectively apply this in their future advanced degree program. Students gained an understanding of their role in the mentorship process and how to establish a common set of goals/expectations in the mentor/mentee relationship.

Performed comprehensive assessments of their ‘community of support’ and identified areas for improvement. Students learned how to build and manage a personal and professional network and how to leverage their network to advance their career dreams.

Learned about the challenges that disproportionately affect students from minoritized groups in advanced degree programs and how to process, mitigate, and respond to these challenges.
