The badge highlights skills used and developed from events hosted by the University College English and Writing Studies (EWS) department. The EWS department hosts student-centered events that aim to enhance students experience and develop real-life skills. Students need to attend two out of two events (Writing Techniques 1-Online workshop & Panel Discussion with invited Emirati Authors) and reflect on their experience in each event and the skills that were used or developed to receive a badge.

Earning Criteria

Critical drafting techniques: Students will be introduced to drafting and storytelling techniques and challenged to use one technique to write a poem or story with a universal audience in mind. Rethinking - students will be asked to reconsider their drafts and use their critical thinking skills to be aware of a global audience (world book month) and different ways of narration and description. Students also will gain experience in contributing to an online workshop talking about their ideas.

Celebrating World Book Day & March Month of Reading: In recognition of World Book Day & Month, students in ENG 140 &145 will utilize their learning in the competition to come up with initiatives to promote story telling through poetry and story writing. They will be asked to share their ideas with other students in English courses. The research competition is designed to acknowledge the best student writers for Spring 2021 and promote poetry and storytelling among students.
