Oral Communication Badge

Description

Oral Communication is a key workforce skill that improves interpersonal relationships and enables people to effectively convey important messages in multiple settings. The Oral Communications badge is awarded to students who demonstrate the ability to thoughtfully structure their communication and deliver it with clarity, courage and confidence. Students who have been awarded the badge recognize that effective communication is rooted in the relationship between multiple parties, whether that is 1-1, 1-many, or amongst a group. Therefore, active listening and the ability to build rapport in interpersonal relationships become essential.

 

The badge provides a core foundation of knowledge before focusing on practice and reflection. All recipients of the badge have demonstrated the oral communication core sub-competences though a series of in-class and external communication exercises including storytelling, elevator pitches, role playing and interviews. Over a 4–6 week period, achievement is self, peer and tutor assessed with external input also provided by a 360° review.
